So far, 113 people have come in contact with the police saying that they are victims in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees. 22 complaints have been registered on behalf of the victims.
In the report of District Police Complex Kathmandu Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rizal, it is mentioned that more than 270 million rupees were defrauded. In the case, initially, a complaint was lodged at the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office saying that 81 people had been defrauded of Rs 130 million. The office has submitted the file along with the arrested persons to the District Police Complex Kathmandu for further investigation and action. Rizal said that more people filed complaints after that.
Until today, the police have arrested 16 people and are investigating the case. Some people are absconding. He says that efforts are being made to collect strong evidence as some people are under investigation. The police started arresting the accused from Chait 12 last year.
