A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.8 has occurred in Morocco. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at least 296 people died due to the earthquake.
At least 153 people were injured in the earthquake. They are being treated. Search and rescue operations are underway in the earthquake-affected areas. The epicenter of the earthquake is in the High Atlas Mountains, 71 km southwest of Marrakesh.
According to local time, the earthquake occurred at 11:11 PM. After 19 minutes, there was an aftershock of 4.9 Richter scale. The BBC reported that the dead were people from Marrakesh and areas south of there.
Some buildings in the old city of Marrakesh have been destroyed.
