The number of people going abroad on student visas without guaranteeing employment is increasing every year. According to the NOC branch under the Ministry of Education, 44 thousand 812 people took NOC from January 17, 2077, to January 16, 2078. The following year, this number reached 12,500, which is about 44 percent more than the previous year.

The branch, which started accepting online applications from August 2077, started keeping the records according to the English calendar for the first two years, but now it is keeping them according to the Nepali financial year. In the financial year 2079/80, 100,217 people have taken NOC.

According to the Nepal Labor Survey 2075, every year at least 1.6 million to 2.0 million young Nepalis enter the labor market, but only five percent of them find employment. At least 70,000 people who have passed the bachelor's degree are unemployed in the survey.

Similarly, it has been pointed out that out of about eight lakh youths who have come to the Gulf and other countries for employment, 74 thousand are postgraduates, two lakh 16 thousand are graduates, more than four lahks have passed certificate level and more than 1.5 lahks have passed SEE.

According to the National Census, 2078, currently 8.6 million people of working age in Nepal have not found employment according to their qualifications and skills. Based on the population, only 34.2 percent of citizens are employed.

Even among the employed, most of them do not consider their income satisfactory. The employees are complaining that their income has not increased compared to the inflation caused by the recent economic recession. There has not been much study about the average income of Nepalese and the balance of essential basic expenses. However, the Nepal Living Standards Survey, 2066/67 put those earning less than Rs 19,859 per annum in the Himalayan region and Rs 40,933 per annum in the Kathmandu Valley below the poverty line.

The survey considered those with an average income of less than 19,000 261 rupees to be below the poverty line. According to this, at that time 25 percent of Nepalese were below the poverty line. Experts say that this number can increase even more.

The government does not have accurate statistics on how many of those who go abroad return to the country in the name of studies. However, it can be understood from the opinion of those who are preparing to go abroad that most of them live there.
