The Nepal Teachers' Federation has protested against the education bill registered in the House. The General Assembly protested at the Maitighar in Kathmandu saying that Bill 2080, which was registered in Parliament to amend and unify the law on school education, was against the rights of teachers.

The teachers who came to Kathmandu after closing the school from all over the country gathered at Maitighar and started protesting. Due to the protest of the teachers, the traffic on that road section has become chaotic.

The Federation alleges that the bill did not pay attention to the stability of temporary teachers, the creation of school staff positions, and the issues of children's class teachers who are outside the school structure.

Similarly, it is the understanding of the federation that the bill has not addressed any issues such as the calculation of temporary period and pension, teacher promotion, appointment of principal, transfer, and performance evaluation.

The Federation demands that the role of appointment, transfer, and promotion of teachers should be given to the district education office and some roles should be kept through the provincial level, as it would be arbitrary and excessive on the teachers to give roles to the local level in the appointment, transfer, and promotion of teachers.

After the protest by the teachers, the government formed a negotiation team under the coordination of Education and Technology Minister Ashok Kumar Rai. Despite calling for talks, the Federation refused to sit in the talks saying that their concerns are not only with the Ministry of Education.

They have warned that they will stop working until the bill is amended. There are currently 34,000 public and private schools in Nepal.
