Hundreds of teachers associated with the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, an elected body of teachers across the country, continued their protest against the school education bill on Thursday.

The teachers who have been protesting with slogan processions from Maitighar Mandla are trying to break the police cordon of New Baneshwar. There has also been a scuffle between the police and teachers. A large number of Nepal Police and Armed Police have been mobilized to put an end to the movement.

Teachers have been protesting against the school education bill registered in the parliament since yesterday Wednesday by closing schools across the country in Kathmandu. Laxmikishore Subedi, General Secretary of the Teachers Federation, said that more than one lakh teachers participated in the movement from all over the country. The education of about 5.4 million children has come to a standstill due to the teacher's strike.

Meanwhile, traffic management in Kathmandu has become chaotic due to teachers' protests. As the teachers staged a demonstration on Maitighar-New Baneshwar road, traffic was blocked in that area. The traffic police have 'diverted' the vehicle from New Baneshwar Chowk and Maitighar. But due to the demonstration, there has been a long traffic jam even on the internal roads.
