120 people have died due to the 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan.
According to local time, at 11 o'clock last night, a powerful earthquake occurred in Herat province, which is located in the west of Afghanistan, bordering Iran. More than a thousand people were injured in the earthquake.
The earthquake hit the western city of Herat the most. Houses and buildings in that area have been damaged. In addition, people are trapped in the debris, and rescue operations are ongoing, according to Afghan officials. It is said that the number of dead may increase. Video footage shows hundreds of injured being admitted to Herat Central Hospital for treatment.
It is said that the epicenter of the earthquake was the border area with Iran, which is 120 km from Herat. After the first earthquake, the locals reported that they felt strong shocks three times in a row.
In June last year, more than 1,000 people died in the 5.9-magnitude earthquake in Paktika province. In addition, tens of thousands of people became homeless.
