Mahendranagar - June 25, 2024: Afghanistan stormed into the T20 World Cup semi-finals with a thrilling 8-run victory over Bangladesh in a rain-affected Super 8 encounter. Captain Rashid Khan's record-breaking bowling performance spearheaded the Afghan triumph.
Chasing a revised target of 114 in 19 overs, Bangladesh fell short despite a valiant 54-run knock from opener Litton Das. The rain gods intervened as Bangladesh crumbled from a promising position, eventually getting bowled out for 105 in 17.5 overs. Rashid Khan, the Afghan spin sensation, was at his unplayable best, claiming a career-best 4/23 in just 4 overs. He also etched his name in history by becoming the fastest bowler to reach 150 wickets in T20 Internationals, surpassing New Zealand's Tim Southee.
Earlier, Afghanistan, opting to bat first, posted a modest 115/5 on the board. Rahmanullah Gurbaz top-scored with a gritty 43, while skipper Rashid Khan himself chipped in with a quickfire 19. Bangladesh's pacer Rishad Hossain impressed with 3/26.
With this victory, Afghanistan not only secured a semi-final berth but also knocked out former champions Australia from the tournament. They will now face a formidable South Africa in the last four, while India takes on England in the other semi-final.
