Kathmandu: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his commitment to ending the ongoing war with Russia through diplomatic means. In an interview with Ukraine's radio outlet Suspilne, Zelensky emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to bring the conflict to a close, stating, “We must end this war through diplomacy. It is very important.”

Zelensky added that he is striving to ensure the war concludes by next year, highlighting the urgency of finding a resolution.

Confidence in Trump's Approach

Zelensky also shared his belief that the war could end swiftly if Donald Trump were to win the upcoming U.S. presidential election. He revealed that he had previously discussed the war with Trump and expressed confidence in Trump’s promise to end the conflict.

Referring to Trump’s campaign pledge to end the Russia-Ukraine war in a single day, Zelensky said, “I am confident that Trump will deliver on his statements. It is certain that his approach could bring a quick resolution to the war. He has his own way of addressing this issue and has made promises to his citizens which he is likely to fulfill.”

U.S. Support for Ukraine

The United States, under President Joe Biden's administration, has been a major supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russia. The U.S. has provided Ukraine with advanced air defense systems, tanks, and ammunition. Earlier this year, Congress approved a $61 billion military aid package for Ukraine, solidifying America’s role as the country’s largest weapons supplier.

The ongoing war, which began in February 2022, has caused immense devastation, but hopes for a peaceful resolution remain as diplomatic and international efforts continue.
