On Sunday evening, in a 4-hour-long confabulation in Maharajganj, Oli also proposed to merge the United Socialist Party into the UML. While the Maoists are making speculation that they will help Congress in the presidential election, UML president KP Sharma Oli has proposed Madhav Kumar Nepal, the president of the United Samajwadi Party, be the presidential candidate.
The Maoists, who have the decisive power in the presidential election, have decided to stick together with common roots in the presidential election with the conclusion that the situation of power-sharing with the UML has changed after holding a meeting of officials on December 10. This has almost closed the door of cooperation with the UML in the presidency. But before supporting Congress for the presidency, Maoist Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal sought a written agreement to extend his tenure for at least four years. The Congress leaders have proposed to Dahal that it will be given at least three years. The official meeting of the Maoists on Monday opened the door to a new equation for the future president and gave the responsibility to the Prime Minister and Party Chairman Dahal to take decisions as needed.
After realizing that he will not get support from the Maoists, UML President Oli has also continued his efforts to make him president from his side. Negotiations with Nepal were held on Sunday evening on Oli's proposal. After that, Nepal met with Congress leaders including Dahal to become the president of the national consensus. He told Dahal about the meeting with Oli on Monday.
"If UML supports it, you should also do it, make an institutional decision," Nepal told Dahal. He also asked to take a clear decision on the presidential candidate as soon as possible. After the talks with Nepal, Dahal party officials reached the meeting.
