An outbreak of dengue disease is increasing in Sudurpaschim Province. As the infection of dengue spread rapidly, 2 people died in the Far West only last week.

A youth died of dengue in Kanchanpur and a girl died of dengue in Darchula, a Himalayan district. 27-year-old Hikmat Khatri of Belauri Municipality-8 in Kanchanpur died of dengue infection, said Hemraj Joshi, contact person for the control of infectious diseases of the Sudurpaschim Province Health Directorate. He said that Khatri died on August 11 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhangadhi after contracting dengue.

5 days after the death of the young man, a teenage girl died of dengue in the Himalayan district of Darchula. Birendra Bhatt, Contact Person of Insect Disease Control, Health Office, Darchula, said that 14-year-old girl Jelina Chaisir, a resident of Darchula Mahakali Municipality, Ward No. 9, Dattu, died of dengue.

Zelina, a student studying in Class 9 at National Secondary School, Dattu, died of dengue infection on August 16. This is the first time that there has been a death due to dengue infection in the Himalayan district of Darchula.

Darchula, a Himalayan district where mosquitoes were not seen until a few years ago, is the most affected by dengue.

According to the data of the provincial health directorate, the outbreak of dengue disease, which has appeared intermittently since last January, has increased rapidly in the last two to three weeks.

15 in January, 52 in February, 129 in March, 25 in April, 22 in May, 26 in June, 58 in July, and 365 people were infected in the same month of August, said Joshi, contact person for the control of infectious diseases of the Sudurpaschim Province Health Directorate. The provincial health directorate has informed that 692 people have been infected with dengue so far in Far West Province.
